Spelling Bee

Spelling practice that actually fits the child.

A thousand words from grade one to twelve, each one read aloud and explained. Children practice at their own level, and you run the bee when they are ready.

Teachers only — accounts are approved by an administrator. Children join with a code.

How it works

  1. 1

    Add your class

Paste a roster or type a few names. Two minutes.

  2. 2

    They practice

At their own level, on any device, as often as you like.

  3. 3

    Run the bee

When they are ready, turn by turn, with you as the judge.

What a child gets

  • Every word read aloud

Real dictionary audio, not a robot voice, so a child hears the word the way it is actually said. Where no recording exists, the browser speaks it — nothing is ever silent.

  • Meets them where they are

Practice starts at the level a child is working at and moves with them — up when they are ready, down when a set proves too hard. Nobody is handed words they cannot reach.

  • Context, without the answer

A definition and a sentence for every word, with the word itself blanked out. The sentence helps them think; it does not hand over the spelling.

  • A real bee when they are ready

A proper turn-based competition — rounds, eliminations, the lot — with every speller at their own screen and the teacher running it.

What a teacher gets

  • A word list you did not have to build

A thousand words across grades one to twelve, each with a definition, an example sentence and a pronunciation. Add your own, import a spreadsheet, or pull entries from the dictionary.

  • Your class, in one paste

Import a roster from a CSV, or add children one at a time. Email them a link that drops them straight into practice — or read out a six-digit code for the ones without an address.

  • Who needs a nudge

The dashboard says who has not practiced this week and which difficulty levels are running thin, rather than showing you numbers you have to interpret.
